There was an article in yesterday's SAEN Travel section about a local person who traveled to Thailand for holiday. According to the article she wrote, the woman and her friend were scammed by Thai locals in Bangkok:
"I quickly scanned our guidebook and found my answer in a small gray-shaded box entitled 'Buyers Beware.' To a T, it detailed the scam we'd just bought into. In seconds our enthusiasm deflated to a sullen embarrassment"
I sympathize with them, but I chuckle a little too. I laugh only because scams are a way of life in Thailand, especially Bangkok. My brother Picook lives in Bangkok, and he has to put up with daily scams from cab drivers, marketers, businessman, food sellers you name it. Scams are a part of life when you're in a third world country.
