The hot topic in the business community right now is the venue tax, known as the "visitor's tax." It was first passed by voters in 1999 to fund construction of the AT&T Center where the San Antonio Spurs play.
Now, city officials are touting it again, so voters can pass it again on May 10. We'll have to wait and see what the voters say. City officials are pushing hard for its approval.
Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff said he was encouraged by the Southern Sectors growth, but that officials and community members must continue to push new initiatives to keep the momentum going.
"Suburban development took people to the North Side, but now with Toyota, Brooks City Base, City South and Texas A&M University, it’s time for the South Side to blossom," said Wolff during his "State of the City" address for the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce luncheon on April 11.
"The extension of the visitor tax will vastly improve the quality of living for all of the community, especially children," Wolff said.
